Candy Harvesting

My sisters and I love to refer to trick-or-treating as candy harvesting, hence the title above.  Here are some pictures from today.  The rain didn't keep us inside.  Jackson came home with several pounds of candy.  Sawyer just enjoyed the car ride and several Hershey bars at Aunt Laura's.

This Week Around The White House

Tonight is the big game and I'm feeling a little jittery as I write this.  It all began last Sunday when the Padres lost to the Marlins.  On the bright side of things, that meant we got to play another game on Wednesday.  Well, the team bounced back from the loss and beat the Nationals 7-5.   The catch is that we have to beat the Marlins twice tonight.  They've yet to lose and the tournament is double elimination.  Regardless of the outcome, I think we'll see some good baseball.

So the funnies from our house this week are the following:
While watching the World Series, a Viagra commercial came on.  The next thing I hear is Jackson asking the following..."Is my heart healthy enough for sex?"  I didn't know whether to laugh or cry or scream at the stupid TV.
Secondly, it doesn't take long for a little boy to learn how to use a remote.  Sawyer has learned to point the remote at the TV and can manage to change a few channels.  Apparently, it's pretty easy to rent movies too because a Winnie The Pooh movie showed up under our menu of purchases this morning after Sawyer played with the remote.  And finally, Webb and I were awakened by a very excited, barking dog early on Thursday morning.  A local possum made a visit to our yard and decided to hang out on our neighbor's fence; Poppi wanted to make certain that we and all of the neighbors were aware of his appearance.

Sawyer has learned how to say "stop" to Poppi.  I'm sure that he hears it quite often from the entire family.  Poppi loves the kids but often times forgets that they need some space.  Well, today she got in Sawyer's face and I continued to hear him say, "Stop, stop, stop".  She listened and then rolled over as you can see in the following picture.  I wondering what took her so long to figure out what the rest of us have already learned...he's the pack leader around here (see pictures below)!

This week, I've really worked on keeping things in perspective.  I've struggled with a lot of things over the past few weeks, one of them is the load of house work that is always in front of me.  I often times feel so defeated by it.  I enjoy every minute with the kids but I often feel guilty for being outside with them when I know what is waiting for me on the inside of my house.  In the whole scheme of things, having a very clean house really doesn't matter but still, knowing that doesn't get the clothes washed or the dishes put away.  I know it's all about balancing but most of all, focusing on what God wants me to do each day.   I'm pretty sure that he'd rather me enjoy my children first and foremost.  The guilt certainly isn't from Him.  I'm trusting that he'll show me how to balance many things in my life.

Along those same lines, I was listening to one of Scotty McCreery's new song this week  titled, Dirty Dishes.   It spoke volumes to me.  It's all about counting your blessings.  Instead of complaining about the house that I have to clean, be thankful for a house that I can clean.  It beats the alternative, right? Here are some of the words to the song:

"I Wanna Thank You, Lord
For Noisy Children And Slammin' Doors
And Clothes Scattered All Over The Floor
A Husband Workin' All The Time

Draggin' In Dead-Tired At Night
A Never Ending, Messy Kitchen
And Dirty Dishes
We All Got Real Still And Quiet

And Daddy Asked, Hon, Are You All Right
She Said, There Ain't Nothin' Wrong
Noisy Kids Are Happy Kids
And Slammin' Doors Just Means We Live
In A Warm And Loving Home

Your Long Hours And Those Dishes In The Sink
Means A Job And Enough To Eat
So, I'm Gonna Thank You, Lord
For Noisy Children And Slammin' Doors

And Clothes Scattered All Over The Floor
A Husband Workin' All The Time
Draggin' In Dead-Tired At Night
A Never Ending, Messy Kitchen

For My Little Busy Bees
Beggin' Momma, Momma Can We Please
Always Wantin', Needing, Callin' Me
Loads Of Laundry Pilin' Up

Crayons Crushed Into The Rug
And Those Little Sticky Kisses
And Dirty Dishes"

Here's hoping that the Padres finish strong tonight.  Off to the game we go!

Go Padres!

The Padres are still undefeated in the tournament.  We loss the coin toss last weekend which meant we had to play on Monday.  Well, two games later and we are still undefeated.  Tomorrow, we play the Marlins, the team that we were tied for first with in the regular season.  I think it'll be a great game.

We've been very blessed with a great group of kids, families, and coaches this season.  I have to say that I couldn't be more proud of my husband.   He seems to be doing a great job delegating jobs to other experienced coaches.  We've certainly seen the opposite of this over the years.  I think Webb took notes.  Also, I've heard so many nice things said about Webb as a coach.  Most people have said that he's a great encourager.  He's certainly had a few frustrating moments, I'm sure, but one thing that struck me a few weeks ago was the way he encouraged the boys not to get their heads down when they mess up.  He said there's always another teammate that will pick you up.  It sounds like a great life lesson to me.  Anyway, I had to take a moment to brag on him.  We all need to hear that we've done a good job and Webb, you have made me so proud!

If you think of us tomorrow at 1:00, pray that our boys will be safe and play their best.  I will update again later.  Go Padres!

Fall Update

It's been busy at the White House, as usual, but we are all happy and well.  The little boys and I joined the Flythe gang last week on a trip to Troy and the zoo in Asheboro.  It was a quick trip but we had a nice time.  It also made for a short school week which neither Jackson and I complained about.  I've always gotten spring fever each April but for some reason, this year, I have fall fever.  Thankfully, because we homeschool, we can take a few days off here and there which is something that I always keep in the back of my mind.

The Padres are still playing well.  Their record is 9-2 with one more game until tournament time.  If they win on Saturday, they are tied for first place.  Not only is winning the regular season a great accomplishment but it also insures a good seed in the tournament.  Stay tuned!

Jackson is doing well with school and baseball.  He's loving catching and I enjoy watching him behind the plate (when I'm not chasing Sawyer around West Raleigh).  He's had at least three weekends of  sleepovers with teammates and other kids in the league and let me tell you, Jackson loves sleepovers! I think he likes staying up late and watching movies.  That seems to be the thing that the boys do when they are sleeping over at our house.  Jackson told me that he watched the "Big Mama" movie at one of the sleepovers.  We've been hearing a lot about that movie  lately and hearing Jackson recite lines from the it is quite funny.

Sawyer is still kicking around a ball.  I was going to buy him a cool little truck at Target this week but when I put it on the floor to show him how it worked, he kicked it.  I figured there was no need to waste money on anything that was wasn't a ball.  He has figured out how to throw now and I caught him pretending to throw a little football this morning, almost like he was warming up his arm.  I think he was studying Mike Glennon on the sidelines at last weekend's game.  He's a busy boy.  He jabbers a lot, especially when he's mad.  He may be following in cousin Bennett's footsteps and making up his own "cuss words".  He has his own language, that's for sure, but we are beginning to understand more of what he says.  He has mastered a few words like plane, dog, cat, and cow.  He even has the dog and monkey sounds down pat.  He's probably getting tired of us asking him to perform throughout the day.  Oh yeah, and when he is adamant about something he says "ga"!  He's a happy child and so much fun to have around.  I especially like seeing Jackson with him.  Last night, they were so tired that they fell asleep together.  It just warmed my heart.  They both seem to love each other.

Our weekends have been filled with baseball and football games; I miss the longer days but it's hard not to get excited about fall.   We're enjoying spending nights by the fire pit, s'mores, apple cider and the cooler fall nights.

Well, one very big boy is out on the couch.  I need to get some rest before the smallest one, who is overtired, wakes again. The middle one had Mountain Dew tonight at the Hurricanes game (thanks to a very cool Uncle Christopher;-) so tonight could get interesting:-)
