God is in the little things, the details that are woven throughout our days and months and years.
I saw that truth at work recently. Jackson started playing tackle football in August and had it not been for some small but difficult things that happened this summer, he wouldn't be playing. Much of it didn't make sense and at times we struggled to remember that God would use it all to work for good in Jackson's life. We know that Jackson would not be playing football if we didn't have the summer off from baseball. What so wonderful about that, you might ask? Jackson has thrived playing football; we've seen him in a leadership role that has blessed us as his parents. When I saw him during the first game, keeping up with all of those plays, my heart was leaping for joy inside of my body. I've lived with years of being frustrated that he can't remember to pick up his clothes off of the bathroom floor! Funny but true! It gives me joy to see him so composed and in charge. This season was a little gift. I think Jackson has found out that he does have other talents (around the age of 8, he would tell us that he needed to find his talents:-). Watching him try new things and have success at them has been a rewarding experience for us all.
The Crusaders wrapped up their season on Saturday; it was a close, back and forth, game. Although they lost by two points, it was the most exciting game I've seen all season. Jackson played his heart out. He didn't want to lose; He had previously made threats that he would stay in his room for a week if they didn't get the victory. No, he's not still in his room and he took the loss better than he would've a few years ago:-) He's been invited to play with the older squad, this upcoming weekend, in their bowl game so he is looking forward to that.
I also saw God in the little things this past Thursday. I lost a diamond earring that belonged to my Granny. I realized it when I was away from home so I did have a brief moment of panic. Sawyer and I had been out running so my thought was that the earring could be lying on a neighborhood street. Just two days prior, I listened to my Bible study leader give a lesson on not letting lost belongings rob us of joy and take our focus off of Him. Coincidence? Nope, God had woven that lesson into my week. As much as I adore those earrings, I was going to accept the fate of that missing one.... but not just yet. For that day, I was going pray and believe I would find it! I searched for about 30 minutes in my house. I found the back of the earring in my bed but no earring. Finally, after deciding to forgo vacuuming that day, for obvious reasons, I went to shower. A small miracle was about to happen. The earring fell out of my running bra! Jesus revealed to me that day that because the earring was important to me, it was also important to Him. He loves me that much.
October has been a beautiful month. The leaves are slowly changing. The days have been warm but without humidity and the evenings have been brisk. Perfection! I've noticed that the skies look different when the sun is setting, vibrant with shades of yellow and blue. Serenity!
The world events aren't serene and I've been struggling to keep peace when I hear of the current events. He whispers gentle reminders, "Just look around at the works of MY hands, look at the faces of your children. Look at what is in front of you and enjoy this day. I am still at work. Put your hope and trust in me." He's in the little things, even though I may not always notice.
We've been to Troy on a few occasions. The boys love being in the wide-open there. Granddaddy has a lot of projects going on and we've been enjoying watching the progress. Webb helped survey last week. It's been years since he's been behind the tripod but he looked awfully handsome back in that role:-)
Sawyer is eager for Christmas to get here. He has made his Christmas lists, yes lists, and it's still growing each day. He woke up this morning and said, "Why is my Christmas stuff taking so long to get here? Let's just go to the North Pole today." He is going to have to wait 57 more days which is probably an eternity to him, but not long for us adults. I need to get busy shopping.

Professor Night lectures each evening.
their voices aren’t recorded,
unspoken truth is spoken everywhere.
for the sun—a superdome!
leaping from his honeymoon bed,
The daybreaking sun an athlete
racing to the tape.
from sunrise to sunset,
Melting ice, scorching deserts,
warming hearts to faith.

Last night, Sawyer told me that Cole and Addi are like his sisters and cousins.

| Sawyer's play dough creations never get old. Maybe it's because my mother rarely kept play dough around the house so I'm vicariously living through him:;-) |
