New Year, New Stuff, New Opportunities!

Yesterday, January 12th was a big day for us.  We got to meet Coach Dave Doeren.  What began as a writing project idea to interview Coach Doeren via email, turned into an opportunity to meet him in person!  It also turned into the best field trip ever!!!!  I think we were all nervous but it was a unique opportunity for Jackson, one I am sure he'll never forget.  As exciting as it was to meet the coach and get to learn a little more about him personally,  this Wolfpack fan was so super excited to get the behind the scenes tour of the Wendell Murphy Football Center.  I received a letter from Chris Corchiani when I was a schoolgirl and that was pretty awesome but the tour was like a fan's dream come true for me (I was so giddy that I forgot to get pictures of every room).

Here are a few of the questions Jackson asked and Coach D's responses:

What's your favorite sport besides football?
Fishing
Do you have a secret talent?
Play guitar
What's your favorite type of music?
Country
What's your favorite song?
Can't You See- Marshall Tucker Band
What are your hobbies?
Fishing, Golf
What's your favorite food?
Steak
Who is your coaching inspiration?
Tom Osborne

Rec basketball is underway once again.  It's actually kind of fun because it's not a big commitment for our family but Jackson enjoys the practices and the games.  He doesn't shoot a lot, he doesn't really get the ball too much (we have adolescent boys who like to hog the ball;-) but he's a great defender and he hustles.  I never thought Jackson enjoyed running too much but he's certainly doing a lot of running on the court and he gives 100%.

Bennett has been coming over to play a lot lately.  He asked me the other day if he could live with us.  I told him that he would miss his mother and he said that he would like it if she could move in with us.  Then he asked if there was a way to join our houses together.  He's an entertainer and a great playmate to Sawyer.  They like to dress up in costumes, mostly Batman and Spiderman, and play with the Batman toys.  They get along so well, despite the age gap.  It's really a joy to see them enjoy each other's company all while staying active and using their imaginations.

After the interview, Jackson posing with Coach Doeren in his office
The office was huge and it overlooks Carter Finley, one of my favorite places to be on Saturdays in the fall:-)

The classroom for the players- we don't remember the proper name for this room but that's what it's used for:-)

Tour of the locker room

I think he's shocked

There's Jacoby's mouthpiece and helmet

Sawyer thought it would be a good idea to put dog treats in the gum machine.  It didn't  go as planned for him but it worked out okay for Poppi:-)

Sawyer decorated Poppi with a bow

Milkshakes!

Poppi uncovered this guy who was trying to take a winter nap.  We covered him back up so that he would be around in the spring.
