Sawyer Turns 3

I'm a few weeks behind posting about Sawyer's 3rd birthday but actually, three years ago today, we brought him home from the hospital.  I remember the events so vividly from those weeks, all of the places we ate, the moments I cried in desperation, feelings of anger and resentful at everyone that was keeping my baby from coming home with me.  I know that there were reasons for Sawyer to stay and I am thankful for modern medicine.  However, I am still convinced that he would've been just fine had he been discharged earlier (can you tell that all of those feelings haven't gone away yet?).  They didn't even want to let him go with us when he did but we didn't back down.  We were confident that Sawyer wouldn't be too different from Jackson; we were right.  That night, three years ago, Sawyer woke me every two hours, just as his full-term brother did.  Whew, what an experience but what a joy and blessing he's been in our lives.  I'm grateful for many kind people who cared for Sawyer and me but most of all, I give thanks to the Lord that we are both here, happy and healthy.  Can you believe that monkey once was a 4.3 pound baby?  I don't think he's ever felt so small:-)  Three years have come and gone.  Time hasn't slowed down.  I just want to soak it all in.

We celebrated Sawyer's birthday with family.  It was so wonderful seeing so many of the cousins playing together.  We got a big water slide for the backyard and ordered pizza.  We played until nap time then played again after.  The kids even played more the next day.  It was a perfect day and the perfect way to celebrate Sawyer.  Now,  Jackson is already making plans for his 12th birthday party:-)

Coming up: beach trips, fireworks, Ripken State Tournament, maybe Southeast Regionals, and enjoying the next two months of summer.  We have lots to be excited about and everyone is happy today.
