A Happy Mother's Day

It's been a happy Mother's Day for me.  The festivities began yesterday when I got to join Jackson on the baseball field prior to his last regular season game.  I got to watch a few innings before heading over to see Andrew get baptized.  What a special day!

This morning, I woke up at 5:40, while everyone else (including Sawyer) was still sleeping.  You see, I signed up for a 5K and didn't realize that the start time was 7:00 AM.  I am pretty sure I wouldn't have signed up had I known.  I love a good excuse to sleep past 7:00 and being that it's Mother's Day, I'm pretty sure I would've been allowed to sleep until at least 8:00 AM.  Still, I am really glad that I got up because one of my best gifts was received before 8:00 AM.  Jackson agreed to run the race because his buddy Jordan registered.  After several attempts to wake Jackson at 6:15, I finally told him to just keep sleeping.  I really didn't think that he'd be doing much running anyway and I didn't care if he just stayed home.  Well, I was pleasantly surprised when he ended up joining me for the ride over to Garner.  I guess one of my love languages is time because just having with me in the car was wonderful.  I usually get jittery before a race but I didn't have any of that because he was with me.  I think I was more concerned about him and whether he'd be able to do the whole race, even if it meant walking most of it.  Don't get me wrong, I think Jackson is in good shape but he did very little training to get ready for today.  Well, would you believe that around the 30 minute mark, here comes Jackson sprinting to the finish line.  I couldn't believe my eyes!  I felt so proud that he was giving it his best effort and that he finished!  Truly, having him out on the race course with me and seeing him finish doing something that I enjoy made me feel extra special.  I felt like we shared a moment....he's growing so fast and most of what he enjoys these days are things that he has in common with his dad.  So thanks to Webb for sleeping with Sawyer last night, which allowed me to get better sleep in order to get up in time to run with my oldest baby.  Also, thank you to our sweet friends, Amanda and Jordan, for joining us today.  You two helped make my day special.  You were Jackson's motivation for getting out of bed this morning.

I finished off the day today with a short nap, pedicure and manicure with Laura, free Pei Wei dinner (thanks to a coupon), and a Cookout milkshake.  Now, I am sitting here with Webb and Jackson watching baseball on TV and thinking about going to take a long bath once I'm done here.  Today has been happy, indeed.
