Expectations

Sawyer took five steps last Friday.  He's been practicing off and on for about a week now.  It's been exciting to watch.  You can tell that he thinks he's so big now.  It's sweet!  On a previous post, I mentioned that he likes to throw things.  He is learning a lot about cause and effect.  You should see his high chair (and the floor below it)  after every meal!

I think that right before babies reach that one year mark, so much happens.  I'm not sure if it is as much the babies as it is that we parents finally figure them out.  I've often discovered that when I don't have expectations, things just work out.  I think I've finally figured out some of Sawyer's routines, likes, dislikes, and what each cry or fuss means, all without trying or expecting.  Yep, it only took about a year!

Speaking of expectations, we finished up 3rd grade last week so we've spent this week reading and working on math facts.  I've enjoyed just spending hours reading with Jackson and just enjoying him, without having to follow a schedule.  I've often said that the years before he started grade school were such a treasure.  If I knew then what I know now....well, I would have tried to soak up every minute.  In a way, summer lets us relive some of those moments.  We get to throw the schedule out and be a little more spontaneous.  I REALLY love the summer months.

The West Raleigh Sand Gnats won the regular season title.  They have one loss in the tournament but they're still alive.  I think they've played six games since last Friday.  They play again on Tuesday and then if they win, they have to beat one of the other teams twice (back to back) to win the championship.  It will be tough but I believe that they can do it.  It's been an exciting season and we feel really blessed to have been a part of such a wonderful team of coaches, players, and families.  I hate to see it all come to an end.

Well, my family is expecting dinner so that's all for now.
